This morning we woke before the sun to depart to the historical wonder that is the Great Wall of China. This being one of the Seven Wonders of the World, we were all extremely impatient to get underway. Although the bus ride was extensive and vapid, our destination made the entire journey worthwhile. As we arrived, the Grandeur of our surroundings provided impetus for the climb. The struggle to the top was a brilliant challenge to many, however all of us persevered to achieve the final climb up. The sight of such a great wonder caused us all to consider the magnificence and awe of such a structure. One is almost forced to consider the great quantity of labour that must have been exerted to carry out the bringing about of the wall.
The great length provided ample opportunity for those who wished to engage in numerous activities such as exploring the unique sites, and engaging in “selfie-taking”. To quote an infamous educator “It is never a wrong time, for a #Selfie” – Debbie Bradbury. After considering this great statement, by an even greater educator, we were forced to conclude that we had to take several thousand “Selfies” while traversing the wall. Additionally, we had the opportunity to inspire Canadian nationalism by engaging in the construction of an Inuksuk near one of the several exits along the great wall. After spending a short time on the wall, we made our departure along the downright treacherous stairway. Needless to say, the entire group became overjoyed at the sight of Subway. Unfortunately, we were rather disappointed in the following moments where upon receiving their sandwiches, many members of our congregation found their subs to be undercooked. Anything with steak and/or bacon was the worst thing in the world.
Subsequent to this escapade, we began on our journey to the Ming Tombs. Thirteen Ming dynasty Emperors have been rested at this site, along with their innumerable concubines. After touring this historical site, the endeavor was concluded by again boarding the bus. As a collective, we embarked on our quest to the Olympic Plaza where we experienced the view of the Bird’s Nest Stadium used in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Lastly, after many pictures were taken, we then began our journey back to the hotel. After we disembarked the bus, all of us immersed ourselves in a delicious seafood buffet dinner.
